Rockford Speedway Brings Back Wing Ding
Memorial Day weekend is a busy time of the year in auto racing, but Rockford Speedway will be busy hosting a popular daylong music festival on Sunday, May 25th with “Wing Ding.” Alice in Chains will headline the music festival that takes place in the infield of the famous quarter-mile oval starting at noon. Other acts scheduled include: Black Stone Cherry, Fuel and Wayland. Plus more will be announced. More information can be found at www.wxrxwingding.com.
Angola Motor Speedway kicks off 2014 with Heroes Night
Angola Motor Speedway in Angola, Indiana will open their 2014 season this Saturday, April 25th with Heroes Night. Along with a full racing program, they will have The Parkview Samaritan medical helicopter, Engine 17 from the movie “Backdraft” and several apparatus from local departments on display. Plus a portion of each ticket sold goes to Supporting Heroes Charity. Racing starts at 7pm.
Berlin Raceway Renovations Continues
Fans attending some early events at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan will notice some heavy operating equipment. The track is going under a renovation of new grandstands and suites. The track continues to show the progress on their Facebook page.
Dixie Motor Speedway Looking at June 6th Opener
The Birch Run, Michigan track recently announced that they have located a new set of bleachers and waiting to get them certified. They are shooting for their first event to take place on Friday, June 6th. So far, they have seven events on their 2014 schedule.
Norway Speedway has Job Openings
The one-third-mile Norway Speedway, located in the upper peninsula of Michigan, has some job openings for their 2014 season. The Dickinson County Racing Association is currently looking for a flagman, announcer, Super Stock inspector, 4-Cylinder inspector and 50/50 takers. Elko Speedway to Host Drive-In Movies
Racing won’t be the only thing to keep families entertained at Elko Speedway in Elko, Minnesota this summer. Last year, Tom Ryan, Speedway Promoter, purchased a 116-foot-wide and 46-foot-tall screen and digital projector. They will install a projector building that could be expanded to include restrooms and a concession area. Starting in June, they will show first-run, family-friendly films on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. On race nights, the movies will be shown after the racing program. The site can fit more than 700 vehicles.
Big 8 Series Season Opener Now on May 26th
Mother Nature put the brakes on the season opener for the Big 8 Series earlier this month at Rockford Speedway in Illinois. The series will not be back in action until Monday, May 26th at Columbus 151 Speedway in Columbus, Wisconsin. The Memorial Day special will feature a 78-lap feature event around the tight quarter-mile oval.
Border Wars Gets Championship Chases Going
The recent 7-Up 150 Border Wars race at Toledo Speedway marked the start of the 2014 season for both the ARCA/CRA Super Series powered by JEGS and the ARCA Midwest Tour. After the first event, Brian Campbell, who won the Toledo race, holds a four-point lead over Chad Finley in the CRA standings. 2007 Champion Nathan Haseleu holds a 10-point lead over Paul Shafer Jr. in the Midwest Tour standings. The ARCA/CRA Super Series will have their first solo event this Saturday, April 26th at Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana. The ARCA Midwest Tour’s first solo event is the Joe Shear Classic on Sunday, May 4th at Madison International Speedway in Oregon, WI.
