Moffitt to Make Cup Debut at Dover This Weekend

Jay Robinson Racing announced Brett Moffitt will make his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut at Dover International Speedway (DE) on June 1 driving the team's #66 Toyota. Moffitt, 21, of Grimes, Iowa is a nine-time winner in K&N Pro Series East competition and serves as a test driver for Toyota Racing Development (TRD) and Michael Waltrip Racing. Moffitt finished ninth in his lone Nationwide Series start in August 2012 at Iowa Speedway. He finished 14th and 17th in 2013 Camping World Truck Series races at Kentucky and Michigan.

Longtime Modified Supporter Bob "Heavy" Scherer Passes
In Memoriam – 5/26/14
Bob “Heavy” Scherer, a longtime fixture on the Eastern Pennsylvania asphalt short track circuit, passed away on Saturday evening, May 24 after a brief bout with cancer.   A former driver, 57-year old Scherer is best recognized for his years of work as the chief mechanic for his brother-in-law, champion pavement Modified star Eric Beers.  Scherer passed away while in hospice care shortly after Beers had won that same evening’s Modified feature at Mahoning Valley Speedway. 

GSPSS Make-Up Headlines Big Saturday at Monadnock

After being rained out on May 24, The Granite State Pro Stock Series has been rescheduled to run their 100 lapper this coming Saturday along with Sportsman Modifieds, Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, Lightning Stocks, Thunder Stocks, Young Guns. Classic Lites and NE Race Trucks at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, New Hampshire.  Due to the huge event of divisions competing, race time will start one hour earlier at 5pm.  The Pit Gates will open at Noon, Practice at 2pm and the main grandstands will open at 3pm.

Evergreen Speedway Hosts $5,000 To Win SLM Event This Saturday

Coastal 200 Set to Return to Wiscasset Speedway on Sunday

Following years of changing ownership and mediocre success, Wiscasset Speedway owners Richard and Vanessa Jordan have started to bring back some of the rich tradition associated with the coastal 3/8-mile oval by bringing back the Coastal 200 event for Late Model Sportsman cars.  The event, which will see the green flag at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, will pay over $18,000 in purse money including over $3,000 to the race winner.  General admission tickets are just $5.00 for Sunday’s race, which is the same price of admission to every event at Wiscasset Speedway in 2014.  Although we highly encourage everyone to take advantage of this great event for such a great price, those unable to attend will be able to follow along with’s Trackside Now coverage of the event on Sunday.

31 Entries So Far for Border Wars at Illiana

31 drivers have filed an entry for Monday’s Calypso Brands Lemonade Border Wars II 150 at Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Indiana.  This will be the second time this year that the stars of the ARCA Midwest Tour will race against the stars of the ARCA/CRA Super Series powered by JEGS.  So far, the entries are pretty balanced between the top Super Late Model series, ARCA Midwest Tour has 16 entries and the ARCA/CRA Super Series has 15.  Racing will get underway at 2:30pm CT on Monday afternoon at the half-mile oval located south of Chicago.

2nd Annual ACT International Format Announced at Airborne

American-Canadian Tour president Tom Curley announced during Saturday's driver's meeting at Airborne Park Speedway (NY) that the 2nd Annual ACT International event will once be conducted as a segment race.  This year's event will feature segments of 50, 75, and 75 laps with the driver tallying the lowest overall score taking home the $25,000 top-prize.  The 2nd Annual ACT International will be held on July 20 at Airborne Park Speedway in Plattsburgh, New York.

Unity Raceway (ME) To Hold Three Races

According to their Facebook page Unity Raceway (ME) will hold at least three events during the 2014 season.  No details other than that one event might be on fourth of July were given.  The track has been leased several times in the past few years with limited success. Hundreds Gather for Trickle Memorial Ground Breaking

A year and two days after his passing, hundreds of race fans, family and competitors gathered at Rudolph Community Park in Rudolph, Wisconsin on Sunday for the ground breaking of the Dick Trickle Memorial.  The memorial will feature an eight-foot bronze statue of Trickle waving to his fans.  There will also be granite walls with laser-etched displays of Trickle’s cars and accomplishments surrounding the statue, which will take about two years to complete. Bowen Gets Phil Harper Motorsports by ILMOR its First Win

Anderson Bowen went to victory lane in Saturday's Mercy Masters of the Pros 144 with a Phil Harper engine under the hood at I-44 Speedway (MO). This was the first win for Phil Harper Motorsports by ILMOR since the two joined forces at the beginning of the season.  Harper powered Cody Coughlin to the JEGS/CRA title in 2013 and Chase Elliott to three Snowflake 100 wins and the Mercy Masters of the Pros at I-44 Speedway in 2013. Coastal Plains KOMA Race: Carnival Atmosphere, Fireworks & More

Special food vendors will provide a carnival atmosphere on the “midway” Sunday afternoon for the "Semper Fi 125" KOMA Modified Tour event at Coastal Plains Speedway in Jacksonville, Florida.  The racing action will be followed by fireworks set to a musical tribute for the Marines and the USA. The track is located near Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.  Grandstand open at 1:00 PM and practice gets under way at 1:30 PM. Qualifying is set for 4:00 PM followed by a big autograph session at 4:45. Racing starts at 6:00 sharp following pre-race ceremonies featuring Marines and local dignitaries. Admission for active duty Military is FREE. Dependants are only $10.00 and general admission is only $15.00 for a full day of fun and excitement. Kids 12 and under are free.

Moffitt Returns to the Seat in Legends Car at Hawkeye Downs

Grimes, Iowa's Brett Moffitt, a nine-time NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race winner, returned to the seat of a racecar on Friday, May 16.  While he's still looking to get into a ride in any top stock car series after being without a ride so far in 2014, Moffitt ran a Legends Car race at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in his native Iowa Friday night.  Moffitt, who is spotting for Scott Heckert's K&N East effort at Iowa Speedway Saturday, was in town and finished fifth in his Legends Car debut.  Moffitt told 51 at Iowa Speedway that he does have a few plans in the works for NASCAR rides this season, but nothing is set in stone yet.  He also said that while he had several starts at Hawkeye Downs in the past in a Late Model, he needed some time to get adapted to a Legends Car on the track's quarter-mile oval, though he did have a lot of fun in a Legends Car.

Super Cup Winner Reitnour a PEAK Stock Car Challenge Finalist

Megan Reitnour, the winner of the first-ever Super Cup Stock Car Series race in 2008 and a past winner of the Tri-County Motor Speedway (NC) Firecracker 150 Late Model event, has been chosen as one of the 18 finalists in the PEAK Stock Car Dream Challenge.  Series officials also have stated that Reitnour will be making an appearance at the series' next event, May 31, at Columbus Motor Speedway in Ohio.

Wiscasset Speedway Hosting Open Practice on Thursday Night

Wiscasset Speedway (ME) will host an open practice for all divisions on Thursday night, May 15 at 5:30pm.  Many teams with plans to enter the Coastal 200 Late Model Sportsman race on May 25 will be using this open practice to prepare for the event.  Pit gate admission for Thursday's practice is just $5.

Hirschman Takes $5,800 for Bullring Bash win; Rocco Grabs $3,700

After all of the lap money and bonus money was counted on Sunday evening, race winner “Big Money” Matt Hirschman took home a $5,800 check following the inaugural Bullring Bash at Lee USA Spedway (NH).  15th place finisher Jeff Rocco earned a total of $2,700 in lap money after starting on the pole making his pay day of $3,700 the second largest among all competitors.  Every team that made the feature on Sunday took home a minimum of $1,000, while every team that showed up to the event pocketed at least $600.  A total of nearly $60,000 in purse money was distributed between all competitors.

Main Event June 6 Race at Dixie Canceled
MERS – 5/14/14
Main Event Racing Series and Dixie Motor Speedway in Birch Run, Michigan announced the cancellation of the June 6th Main Event show.  Both the track and series cited two reasons for cancelling the event. One was a scheduling conflict with the Gold Cup Series at Toledo Speedway and the bleacher project at the track, which has been delayed due to the weather. The series is looking forward to returning to Dixie on June 27 and August 1.

Hershel McGriff to be Grand Marshall of Summer Showdown

Matt Wallace Making First Start of 2014 at I-44 Masters of the Pros
JEGS Tour – 5/13/14
2012 Late Model Rookie of the year, and runner up in the 2012 and 2013 championship points contender Matt Wallace will return to the high banks of the Lebanon I-44 Speedway for another shot at the Mercy Masters of the Pro 144 on Saturday May 17 in the same car his sister (Chrissy) won a championship in and that he drove the last two seasons. After two very successful seasons in the Pro Late Model division, Wallace wanted to do some travelling and take on some different tracks this year.  The first race of his 2014 season is at Lebanon I-44 Speedway.

Tommy Barrett, Jr. to Compete in Waterford Late Model Events

NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour rookie Tommy Barrett, Jr. has made plans to run in Waterford Speedbowl’s Late Model division, according to a report by Yankee Racer.  Barrett plans to drive the No. 27 Ted Butler-owned Late Model when his NWMT schedule allows him to do so.  Earlier this month in the Late Model division at Waterford, Barrett finished third in his first career start in a full-bodied stock car. 

K&N East Racer Bell Becomes Spokesperson for LUNG FORCE

The tickets are $15.  Frank Kimmel will be appearing at local Toledo area Menards stores on Friday, May 16, including the Oregon store from 4-5:30 p.m. and the Toledo North Menards, near Toledo Speedway, from 6:30 - 8 p.m.  Justin Boston will be appearing at Bedford High School in Lambertville, Mich. to speak to the sophomore and junior class on behalf of the national Persons Against Distracted Driving campaign.

Berlin to Offer 10K to Win for June 11th Outlaw Show

Outlaw Super Late Models will flock to Berlin Raceway (MI) for the Money in the Bank 125 where the winner will pocket $10,000 for the victory  on Wednesday June 11th.  The race will be run in two segments with 75 laps in the first and 50 in the second. The starting pay will be $850 as 26 cars will take the green that night. Dyer Raises $2,005 for Alzheimer’s Association with World Record

On Tuesday, May 6 at 1pm ET, Ryan Dyer of Maine Indoor Karting completed his attempt to break the Guinness World Record for most miles traveled on an indoor race track in 24 hours.  Dyer ended his 24-hour run with 423.818 miles completed, beating the previous record held of 375 miles.  In addition to breaking the World Record, Dyer achieved his primary goal of raising over $1,500 for the Maine Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.  Dyer told presented by JEGS on Thursday that he has tallied all donations from the event’s GoFundMe page, as well as donations received at the event and will be presenting a check of $2,005 to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Mini Stock Competitor Danny Field Passes Away
In Memoriam - 5/8/14 is saddened to learn of the passing of former Connecticut Late Model competitor and 2012 Northeast Mini Stock Tour champion Danny Field.  Field passed away on Wednesday night after a tough fight against liver cancer.  Field will be honored at NEMST’s next event at Waterford Speedbowl (CT) on May 31 when the tour hosts the Danny Field Memorial 50.  A video tribute has been put together by the winner of the 2013 51 Award for Best Social Media, Sid’s View, to honor Field and can be viewed by clicking here. Prestoria Farms 150 NWSMT Event Rescheduled for October 4

NASCAR and Caraway Speedway announced today that the previously postponed Prestoria Farms 150 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race has been rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4.  The Prestoria Farms 150 was originally scheduled for Saturday, March 29, but was postponed due to inclement weather. 

The Whelen Southern Modified Tour was also rained out at Caraway on Saturday, April 19.  Despite extensive efforts by Caraway and NASCAR officials to identify an alternate date for the event, scheduling conflicts for both the track and the tour preclude rescheduling the Bunny Hop 150.

“Cool 101 Shootout” This Saturday Night at Kalamazoo

Seven-Year-Old Thompson Racing Fan Tyler Now Cancer Free

Tyler Seddon, a seven-year-old diehard racing fan at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (CT), is now cancer free according to a post by his mother on Tyler’s Racing Troops Facebook page.  Tyler, who was the guest of TSMP general manager Josh Vanada during Icebreaker weekend in April, was first diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at the age of three-years-old.  Since then, he and his family have battled the disease.  After a number of blood and bone marrow drives were held in his honor, two bone marrow matches were found for Tyler. 

During the April Icebreaker, Tyler had the chance to meet and talk to his favorite drivers from the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.  Following the completion of the 150 lap NWMT event, race winner Justin Bonsignore handed over his prestigious Icebreaker trophy over to Tyler to take home with him.

Best in Modified Racing Head to Lee USA Speedway this Weekend

With big money on the line, the best in Tour-Type Modified racing will be heading to Lee USA Speedway (NH) this Sunday for the first annual Bullring Bash.  2013 NWMT champion Ryan Preece, 2013 VMRS champion Rowan Pennink, Modified star Andy Seuss, and a host of others will be competing in this big money show.

Over $42,000 in purse money will be distributed between all teams that show up on Sunday with the winner having the chance to take home close to $8,000.  Every team that takes the green flag for Sunday’s race will be guaranteed at least $1,000.  The green flag is set to wave for qualifying heat action at 1:10 p.m. and adult general admission tickets are available for $25.00.

World Record Attempt at Maine Indoor Karting on Monday

Beginning at 1 p.m. on Monday afternoon, Ryan Dyer will attempt to break a world record at Maine Indoor Karting, the facility that he manages.  Dyer will be attempting to break the record for most miles raced on an indoor go-kart track in a 24-hour span.  He will have until 1 p.m. to complete 375 miles, which equates to 2,000 laps around the nine-turn Maine Indoor Karting track.
While trying to make history, Dyer is supporting a great cause by making the event a fundraiser for the Maine chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.  Racers can join Dyer for 30 laps on the track during the event for just $25.  If you can’t attend the event you can donate at the following link: click here

The opening event for the Tri-Track Open Modified Series will get a little Southern flavor this Sunday when Spencer Davis and the Hillbilly Racing No. 79 Modified team make the trip to Lee USA Speedway in New Hampshire for the Bullring Bash.  Davis, of Dawsonville, Georgia, has been a part of the David Hill-led No. 79 team all season long on the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour and other Modified events in the Southeast, but this will be their first foray together in New England this season.  The 15-year-old Davis also will compete in select NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour events in the Northeast this season.

Kart Racing Series on Hold at Devil’s Bowl Speedway

Devil’s Bowl Speedway (VT) has postponed the opening of its new Kart Racing Series due to wet ground conditions worsened by weekend rain.  The season was scheduled to open on Sunday, May 11 but a hard winter and wet spring left the grounds unsuitable for heavy construction equipment to complete the 1/7-mile asphalt karting track.

As a result, races on May 11 and May 26 have been cancelled in order to allow the area to dry and for construction to be completed properly.  The targeted opening date is now Sunday, June 1.

Matt Janisch Wins Second Straight ATQMRA Event to Open Season

The American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association (ATQMRA) took to the tight confines of Borger’s Speedway (PA) for a wingless 50-lap feature on Saturday and when all was said and done Matt Janisch of Nazareth scored his second straight club victory.  Janisch took the lead from Buddy Sload on lap 3 and never looked back en route to winning the 50-lap feature at the 1/7-mile oval nestled in the heart of the Pocono Mountains. Sload, Geoffery Sutton, Matt Roselli, and Rob Vivona completed the top-five.

JRi Shocks Power a SoBo Sweep and More

Spring Green Postponed at Devil’s Bowl Speedway

Devil’s Bowl Speedway (VT) has postponed the 101.5 The Fox Spring Green 114 stock car event, scheduled for Sunday, May 4.  The speedway property is saturated from recent rain and faces a rainy weekend forecast. Devil’s Bowl Speedway officials are working closely with the American-Canadian Tour toward rescheduling the race, and a make-up date is expected to be announced soon. Top Southern Super Series Names to Tackle Montgomery 5/10

The chase for the 2014 Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco championship will heat up on May 10 when the series hits Montgomery Motor Speedway in Alabama for the Rumble by the River 125.  Anderson Bowen and Casey Smith enter the 125-lap event tied atop the Southern Super Series standings and Bubba Pollard is looking to gain points on the heels of his Gulf Coast weekend sweep in late April.  For ticket information and more, visit

Gifford Back to Nationwide at Iowa and Kentucky in the No. 98

Rev Racing’s Ryan Gifford, who is in his fifth full season of NASCAR K&N Pro Series East competition with the team, will get back behind the wheel of a NASCAR Nationwide car this month after making his debut at Iowa Speedway in 2013 finishing ninth after starting 23rd.  The 25-year-old Tennessean and second-year NASCAR Next member will go back to Iowa Speedway on May 18 with Biagi-DenBeste Racing and Kentucky Speedway on June 27 in the No. 98 entry.

Five Flags Announcer Pavlock's Home Destroyed in P'cola Storms

Among those affected by the storms that flooded many areas in and around Pensacola, Florida this week was Five Flags Speedway track announcer Dave Pavlock and his family. has learned that Pavlock and his wife had to be rescued early Wednesday morning by boat from chest-deep water in their home.  The Pavlocks are safe and will be finding other accomodations in the area for the time being, but track officials have told 51 that the family has "lost everything."  51 and many in the racing community offer prayers for a quick and safe cleanup and rebuild for the Pavlocks and others affected by this week's weather-related issues in the region.

69th Season of Action at Seekonk Kicks Off This Weekend

On Sunday, the 69th racing season at Seekonk Speedway (MA) goes into high gear with the Sims Spring Kickoff Classic. The Valenti Auto Group Modified Racing Series will make their first of three appearances at the Action Track of the East with a 100 lap main event. The ARC Pro Stocks will kick off the ARC regular season with a 40 lap feature. The Late Models, Street Stocks and Sport Trucks will also compete in the five-division card. The racing starts at 1pm for the 69th season opener. General admission is $25.00 for adults.

Modified Racers Dauzat, Powell Making ARCA Debuts at Talladega

Two drivers with plenty of open-wheeled experience in the Southeastern Modified ranks will be making their ARCA Racing Series debuts this Saturday in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 at Talladega Superspeedway.  NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour regular Bryan Dauzat has entered his own No. 57 machine in the event.  "Krazy" Kevin Powell, a longtime Modified regular at Bowman Gray Stadium (NC), will also make his first-ever ARCA attempt in the No. 3 owned by Tony Blanchard.
